Communication Strategies for the University Classroom

ENGL 104

Develop the listening and speaking skills needed for active participation in university courses. You’ll learn how to take effective notes, give presentations, and lead and participate in class discussions. We’ll practice asking questions, sharing opinions, and expressing agreement and disagreement in the classroom.

Designed For

Non-native English speakers who want to build confidence and develop communication strategies for college-level study, and/or those who want to satisfy the UW English Language Proficiency Requirement (ELPR).

Attendance and Workload

All Early Fall Start courses require the same amount of academic work as any other UW course, and full attendance and participation is required. In general, each course requires about 10 hours of homework each week.


The instructor will vary depending on the course section.
